Experience

I have authored over 40 publications since 1994 (listed below), all relating to eucalypt systematics, ecology and biochemistry, including 29 refereed scientific articles and the reference books Eucalypts of South Australia and Eucalypts of Victoria and Tasmania.

I am director and head of research at Currency Creek Arboretum (CCA; www.dn.com.au), a world-renowned eucalypt research arboretum, including the cultivation of over 800 species of eucalypts. Over 50 publications have been published, accepted for publication, submitted or are in manuscript, which have used the resources and/or data of CCA.

I am self-employed as a consulting arborist/botanist/ecologist. I have consulted to numerous government organizations, private companies and individuals for tree identifications, tree hazard and health assessments and species selection and field trials, including the production of Significant Tree Assessment Reports for over 4000 trees in the Adelaide metropolitan area since 2003. I am also employed as a casual teacher in Biological Sciences at The Flinders University of South Australia.

I have been invited to speak on eucalypt arboriculture, botany and ecology at numerous seminars and conferences, including:

  • Keynote speaker at national conference Small ornamental eucalypts - Society for Growing Australian Plants at Hamilton, Victoria on 6th September 1998.

  • Invited speaker at Treenet (Tree and Roadway Experimental and Educational Network) National Conference at Waite Arboretum, South Australia on 6th September 2002.

  • Invited speaker at Treenet National Conference at Waite Arboretum, South Australia on 4th September 2003.
